Science: Kaden led us in prayer to kick off our class. Our devotional today likened the various forms of precipitation to the various jobs God has for us and how he prepares us for everything he calls us to. We also reflected on just how old the water we use each day might be! A brief video helped us to review the 4 main types of precipitation: rain, snow, sleet and hail. Each table team was given a specific type of precipitation and asked to create a clue for the rest of the class. One at a time, the teams shared their clue and the rest of the class guessed which form they were describing. Clearly these were fabulous clues because the class got them all right! We prepped our record sheet for our experiment: Rain Cloud. For the experiment each table team had a jar filled with water. We topped it off with shaving cream to represent a cloud. Then the students took turns adding droppers full of colored water to the “cloud”. When it became too full, they could see the colored water coming through the shaving cream cloud like rainbow colored rain. What better way to combine St. Patrick’s day fun, precipitation and learning about God as Light than adding a little rainbow to our day? We recorded our observations and conclusion on the experiment sheet. We used the remaining colored water for our second experiment. We explored how precipitation is used to water plants through water’s magical superpower: Capillary Action. The students were mesmerized to see the colored water climb up the paper-towel into the next cup creating a row of rainbow water cups. We finished our science time off with a lightning quiz reviewing the information of the day.

Geography: Brendan led us in the flag salute and read a clue card. We watched a brief National Geographic video introducing our new continent: Asia! It is fun to see the kids get so excited about their new country projects. I passed the new countries out to a choir of eager squeals. Next, each table team was given 5 Asian landmarks. Once mastered, they picked on to share with the class. After these presentations we played our World Landmark Bingo game, this time in St. Patrick’s Day style with Lucky Charms. We added the challenge of identifying not just the name of the landmark, but where it is found in the world as well. The students rose to the challenge!

IEW: After listening to and chatting about our new memory verse song, we discussed the week’s assignment. I invited anyone who wanted to read their RD to the class. What a wonderful job they did! I collected these RD and passed out the Animal Homes FD (these can go in the FD notebook). We introduced the “because” clause and spent the rest of class working on our new story from 3 new pictures. Most of the students jumped right into it so I’m certain they will have awesome stories to read next week!
