Science

Today had heart-burst emojis on repeat. It was such a fun and meaningful last day of a wonderful year. First of all, thank you so much for your kind words and generous gifts today. It was an elaborate verbal and visual display of the love I have felt from your students and families this year. I am so incredibly grateful. Evan opened us with a sweet prayer today and then the students were very excited to perform the planet song. We invited Mr. Sparks and his High Schoolers to come in as an audience for the song. The students were clearly excited/nervous but nailed it even under pressure. It was SO fun. The students clearly worked hard memorizing and rocked it! After watching a video about our solar system and how big our God is, I surprised them by Finally, we started our Minute To Win It Solar System Challenge! It included a Planet Scramble (decoding scrambled planet names), Planet Order (naming them in order), Man In The Moon (trying to eat a cookie from your forehead with no hands), and finally the Saturn (tossing rings onto the “planet” on a student’s head).

Geography

We spent a little extra time at recess to allow the students to sign yearbooks with the younger grades (1st and 2nd). When we returned to class, we spent time signing one another’s yearbooks while listening to some theme songs from the year. We finished the class with a Clue Card Relay. We used most of the remaining clue cards from the year as a global scavenger hunt.

IEW

We enjoyed some snacks while we listened to the awesome paragraphs students wrote about their favorite day. I shared with the students about the magnetism of our Earth and how a compass works and related this back to our relationship with God. We are all created with a magnetism toward God. When we allow that truth to guide us, we find our way home. I gifted each student a compass engraved with “God will be my guide” along with an affirmation award noting the character trait that showed God’s fingerprint in their life most this year. After some hugs and tears we headed to the sanctuary for the awards and potluck.
