SCIENCE

Bryson helped us pray to start our day today. Then, we colored a diagram of the Earth's structure and reviewed for our quiz. We read a devotional from Louie Giglio that reminded us that God has us "on the move!"with intention just like our planet that rotates and revolves. Brielle shared a quick ighlight from her trip to Yellowstone National Park and then the students then began their quiz. We did 2 rounds. The first one was all on their own and they earned 10,000 points for every correct answer noted with a blue stamp (if they got 60,000 points they earned an extra punch in their punch card). The second round, they were able to use their resources (notes, books, diagram, etc) and earned 5,000 points for each correct answer noted with a red stamp. Way to go on your first quiz! We filed these away under the "Review" tab in our Science notebooks if you want to take a peek. Then off we went to the spirit rally in our crazy hats... truly creative crazy hats I might add!

GEOGRAPHY

Brielle led us in the Flag salute and chose the clue card for the day. Brendan's creative clues led us all the way to South America! The students then used their homework to share where they were from with their TableTeam. We found out that several of our students have family that came from similar places - what a small world, indeed. It was fun to hear the students seeing themselves in the big map of our world and really starting to familiarize themselves with locations on the globe. We then moved into our Mapping Centers. The groups were able to complete 2 more centers today and one group even tried an extra challenge! Finally, we passed out the passports that will be used for homework throughout the year starting this week. Next week, we'll dive into the Oceans of our world!

IEW

We starting our IEW time with the Memory Verse video (linked in homework). We reviewed our banned verbs and turned in our rough drafts for "Belling the Cat". We had SOOO many students excited to read their draft, it crushed me that we didn't have time for each of them to do so. They were clearly so proud of their work and that is a huge WIN! We were able to hear Nash read his awesome retelling of the fable with remarkably strong verbs! I am so excited to read them all this week and hear from others next week for "the Crow and the Peacock". We added a few tools to our toolbelt this week discussing -ly words (adverbs) and adjectives. The students will be able to use all 3 dress-ups in their homework this week (there's a handy list of each in the back of your IEW workbook). They can use a vocabulary word too for bonus points! We discussed our homework for the week and worked together to complete the KWO for our fable.
