SCIENCE:
We opened the class with prayer and spent some time reviewing Unit 2 with an interactive Q&A. Once we had reviewed each lesson and answered any lingering questions, we started the quiz. Many students earned 100% (110,000 points!) on the first round - well done!!! Those who didn't quite get every question correct did a second round and many of them were able to use their resources to correctly answer the remaining questions. What smart and resourceful students we have! Next week, we will start exploring the hydrosphere.

GEOGRAPHY:

After the flag salute, we followed a clue card that led us to Australia. We discussed our country project and each student found their assigned country on their maps. I cannot wait to see the creative presentations that await us! After questions were answered, we whipped out our water colors took a deep dive into the geographic features of Europe. We talked through the latitude, longitude, lowlands, uplands, highlands, seas, rivers, and mountain ranges as we painted our masterpiece. This will be our setting for the next several weeks so it was helpful to become familiar with the landscape and fun to do a bit of art with our hands!

IEW:

We used the first few minutes of IEW to finsh up our Europe maps, and then sang our memory verse song together. Our IEW journey is leveling up this week as we begin to explore the Story Sequence Chart. We will be using the skills we developed in our KWOs for fables to take notes for stories. We had a conversation about the three parts of a story (setting/characters, conflict, climax/resolution). This week we will focus on the first: setting and characters. We read Section 1 of Damocles and worked together to create a KWO. This time we didn't take the paragraph line by line, rather we used questions to guide our note taking. Who is this story about? Can you describe them? Where does this story take place? Can you describe it? The students found it surprisingly simple and were able to pull the meat out of the story, easily using their KWO to retell the opening of our narrative. We used the rest of our time to brainstorm some helpful adjectives to use in our RD this week. Finally, we turned in our FD for "The Ants and the Grasshoppers."
