SCIENCE:
We read from Louie Giglio's devotion about the solid Rock that is our God and then Jett opened the class in prayer. We had a few super helpful mamas join us today for our experiment so we jumped right into it. We went over some safety measures and then headed out to the parking lot and broke GEODES! The students did really well with this and were so excited when they finally cracked it! Some cracked quickly (more hollow) and others took a while (more solid), but oh how I loved watching the excitement of as they held their little real life wonders. Thank you SO MUCH Mrs. Ticehurst, Mrs. McLeod, and Mrs. Guzman - we couldn't have done it without you! As we finished, we began to hypothesis about how these geodes were formed. Once back in the class, we watched a video about Geodes and discussed our reading from the week. We paid particular attention to the three different types of rocks: Igneous, Metamorphic, and Sedementary. Then we did a little table team show-and-tell with the rocks that the students brought to class - they were SO COOL! The students were able to identify which type of rock they were showing ...we clearly have a few rock collecting experts in the class and I think we may have made a few new ones too. I reminded the students to study for their quiz next week & bring their textbooks and then we were off to recess!

GEOGRAPHY:

Jett led us in the flag salute and then chose a clue card that led us to China! The table teams each completed two of our "World" centers today. They all worked really hard on their tasks & it was so fun to see them working together! At the end of class we read "How to Bake an Apple Pie & See the World" (a personal favorite) and discussed our missionary books - they are looking great! This week our homework will be to read the books other students have made. Just a heads up, there is one "library" for both Tuesday and Thursday classes so if your student reads the books before Thursday, they may see some unfinished books from the Thursday classes. I really hope you all get a chance to see these. I can tell the students worked hard on them and the stories of these missionaries are worth telling!

IEW:

We started our IEW time with our new memory verse. We put on our "editing glasses" and spent some time learning how to revise our rough drafts. We spent some time talking through what why we add these dress-ups and decorations. We ended up creating an impromtu song with different beats to show how the variation made the song interesting and fun to listen to. Then, I passed out the FD checklist so we could remember what we needed to include and then the students began to read their stories aloud to the class. It was clear that they worked hard on these drafts. Everyone who brought one was very eager to participate and the stories themselves were filled with dress-ups! This process was a bit choppy today and something we will continue to fine tune, but we addressed banned words, dress-ups (strong verbs, adjectives, -ly words), sentence opener (-ly word), and made some suggestions for titles and morals. We were running low on time so we divided and conquered reading our stories and giving feedback in table teams. The students finished strong...we returned their final drafts and many of them earned an extra punch for getting full credit - way to go!
