Science: After Marty opened with prayer, we jumped into our lesson on humidity. I demonstrated with two wet towels (one in an open baggy) and asked them to hypothesis which would allow the water to evaporate more quickly. We talked about how the moisture in the air slows down the evaporation of the moisture on the towel…kind of like our skin. This is why hot, humid air can be so miserable - the moisture cannot escape to cool us down, making us feel even more hot. We watched a BrainPop video on the topic and then did a popcorn read-a-loud. The students worked as table teams to match the vocabulary and answer a few multiple choice questions. I called on a student to answer each one as review at the end - for a small prize. Once finished with our Science lesson, we dove right into the valentine exchange. The students were SOOO excited and incredibly generous I might add. They came ready with mailboxes and sweet surprises for their classmates.

Geography: WOW! WOW! WOW! The students presented their South America/Oceania countries did AMAZING! We learned so much, and each student grew exponentially in their presentation skills. I am so proud of them for seizing the opportunity to put themselves out there and learn something new. Honeycomb, acai, pineapple juice, and homemade Australian delights were just a few of the culinary additions to the our South American/Oceania adventure. Students thought outside the box, clearly worked hard and made each presentation their own. I sent a video of the presentation to each of the parents. IEW: We kicked IEW time off with our new memory verse song. I passed back the Pecos Bill final drafts as Sebastien read his aloud for the class. We highlighted the reflected words in our topic sentence/clincher for the Busy Beavers summary before turning those in. Then, we read our new text about a tasty nest before completing the outline together. Nothing changes for the checklist (please use the checklist) this week. We are still writing one paragraph to summarize the source. To close our Valentine celebration we read one of my most favorite books by Max Lucado called “You are Special” that follows a wooden character named Punchinello as he finds his way to Eli his maker. May we all remember today and always that we were made by Love himself.
