Have a student choose and read a “clue card” (the students will find this on their maps)
Pass out new South America/Oceania country project papers
Complete South America landform water color
Put the image on the screen
Begin with the blue water
Paint the orange HIGHLANDS
Paint the green LOWLANDS
Paint the yellow UPLANDS
Paint a blue line for the Amazon River
Label (black pen is best) the Andes Mountains, Brazilian HIghlands, Amazon Rainforest, Pampas, Patagonia, and Amazon River
Cut out and glue to brown paper
Add title to the brown paper: South America
Glue the key to the bottom
Draw a compass
File in Geography binder under “South America”

Read the “Tall Tale” section on p. 59 aloud for the class
Read Pecos Bill aloud for the class (p. 60)
Create a KWO for Pecos Bill Sec I (first paragraph) using the questions & template on p. 61
If there is time, the students can use p. 62 to brainstorm for their rough draft
*If a student finishes early, have them empty the class trash to the larger bin in the courtyard.
If students stay green or above they earn a punch on their punch card.
*Note: if any student filled up their punch card today, let them know they can turn it in for a trip to the treasure chest next week.
