It was John Slade (no relationship), a committed member at Metropolitan United Church (Met United), who asked me after a Sunday worship service in 1998 if I’d be interested in becoming more active in church affairs. I looked at my wife Inga, to see her reaction. I knew John, as we both were teachers at Beal Secondary School, and I knew he would not give up in ‘recruiting’ me into being an active church member. Even though I didn’t say ‘yes,’ I knew that it would eventually happen, and it did. This event began about 20-plus years ago.
