Ladies’ Washroom on Lower Level (2018)

Christine (Chris) MacKay has the ability to motivate and bring about change. As an active Elder at Met United in 2017, she often questioned me at meetings regarding the ladies’ washrooms in the downstairs location. One cannot ignore Chris, so I investigated how we could remodel this area and, if possible, increase the number of stalls. After deciding on a design and obtaining quotes in the fall of 2017, we went to work getting rid of shower stalls, breaking up concrete floors, and installing new sewer lines for new toilets. The hard work was completed in 2018. The final completion included five new toilets, including new toilet partitions, new flooring, a vanity supplied by Coni~Marble (owned by the Huizenga family, long-time members of Metropolitan United Church) in Thorndale, new suspended acoustic ceiling, plus painted walls and trim. We were able to do the whole project in 2018 for less than $20,000—a huge savings.

I must thank two Met United members for their valuable ‘manual’ work: Al Lawton and Bruce McGauley. However, the most important contributor was John Lee, always my right hand in every project that I did for Metropolitan.
