It was wonderful to see so many whānau at the Roller Disco that Friends of Lyall Bay School sponsored and organised. What a great evening, thank you Friends for all your support. Friends of Lyall Bay School (FoLBS) fundraise for our school. They support us by donating money for different items. This year they have donated money toward the Ahu renovation, most significantly the ovens that have been installed. In the past they have donated money for ICT equipment, playground upgrades, subsidising trips, counselling services, and Learning Through Play equipment. They also support the community by making activities like the disco free, and at the beginning of the year held 'Summer in the Bay' which was a significant event. They raise money for the school through art calendars, raffles, 'athons' etc. If you have some fundraising or grant application experience, or just wish to give back, then FoLBS would love for you to join them. Please support the current raffle - more information in Community notices.
We had our wonderful Lyall Bay tamariki represent us at Easter Zone Athletics last week. Congratulations to you all. Our results are below. Thank you all for representing Lyall Bay School and showing our values of Manaaki, Whakapono, Pākiki and Hiranga throughout the day.
We presented Zac with a certificate from EZ swimming that was held earlier this year. Congratulations Zac for coming 2nd. Tino pai,
All of our policies are on a website called Schooldocs. You can access this at any time through www.schooldocs.co.nz , click 'Search for your school' and start typing Lyall Bay School and select from the dropdown box, enter the community username 'lyallbay' and the password 'maranui'. You can review a policy here whenever you like.
Electives started with a hiss and roar on Tuesday. Such a variety of activities on offer with the theme of 'Summer'. Tamariki were given options to choose from, ranging from magic tricks to fire. See the photo below for some of the electives. Have a chat at home about what is happening.
The newsletter is published every two weeks on Tuesdays. The newsletter is available on HERO and on our website. In each newsletter some kupu will be shared with you to help with all of our understanding. In this week's kupu we are continuing with our theme of the beach... moutere. motu- island kohi- collect or gather, kaimoana - seafood, hī ika - to fish with a line, nga - wave, ruku - dive. plunge.
Our community came together on Saturday two weeks ago to launch the road trial. It was a great afternoon with lots of fun and food!
We have noticed how tricky it can be when dropping off and picking up tamariki, especially at the top end of Freyberg St. If you drop off on the yellow lines it means other cars cannot turn easily and blocks the traffic. From Wednesday we will open the top courts as a drop off and pick up zone. The gates will be open from 8.30 am - 9am and again from 3 pm - 3.15 pm. This is only for a quick drop off or pick up, no parking, etc, as there won't be room. We will see if this helps at all over the next couple of weeks and would love your feedback. We will put cones out for tamariki to wait behind and will have an adult present to support. Below is a map from the WCC for the other drop off and pick up zones.
I am sure you will be just as excited as we are to know that Ahu is almost completed! The interior is finished and now they are just working on the outside decks. It will all be finished in December, a bit longer than was the original plan, but we are getting there! There may be some roopu of tamariki using the space (all inspections have been passed for the interior), and we will arrange a ceremony at the beginning of 2024.
