On Monday Huetepara had a special morning at the beach as part of Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) and a celebration of all the learning that has been happening. It was lovely to see so many whānau join in the fun. Games were played, sandcastles built, treasure was found and lots of conversations were had.
We are hoping to have more events that whānau can join us for in 2023!!
Onepū tamariki were asked for some feedback as part of the W.A.T.P hui. We often ask for feedback from tamariki or whānau and use this information to review our programmes of learning. Their feedback was shared with whānau at the Wednesday session but, of course, not everyone got to see it. Here are some of the themes that came through: 'what has worked well' - workshops on a variety of topics across reading, writing and maths; 'what would you like to be different'- having obvious boundaries to constructions, being able to choose workshops that we have decided on the topic, more variety on the workshops; 'We are Building the Best Learners Waihangatia ngā Ākonga Tino Pai by' - working with each other, being able to work with who we work best with, follow ups to workshops; 'This year I have become more confident as a (collaborator/communucator/
critical thinker/creator) because ..... ' - have become more confident as there are more people to work with, working with people that aren't my friends. Tino pai Onepū for sharing.
We have some data to share with you about our target learners. Each year kaiako study the data from the previous year and have groups of tamariki that are target learners in reading, writing and maths. Whānau of these tamariki were invited in, earlier in the year, to hear about the inventions and programmes that are in place for these learners, as well as how they can best support at home. The data shows that inventions and programmes are working. 98% of target readers have made progress, 86% of target writers have made progress, 93% of target mathematicians have made progress. Ka pai.
On Monday next week you will receive a stationery list for 2023, through HERO. On this list will be the hub and 'Awhi Kaiako' for your tamariki. On Tuesday of that week, tamariki will visit their 2023 hub, and on Wednesday, 14th December, you are invited to visit the hubs too. This session is from 2.30pm - 3.10pm. You will get an opportunity to meet the kaiako, have a whānau photo, chat with other whānau, and explore the space. We look forward to seeing you here.
Also on Monday there will be a post sharing which curriculum level your tamariki are currently working at. Usually tamariki in Yrs 1-2 are working at curriculum level 1, in Yrs 3-4 they are working within curriculum level 2 and in Yrs 5-6 working within curriculum level 3. We will send a PDF so you can see the range and a written comment as to where they are working in Reading, Writing and Maths. If you want to know more about why we have moved from reporting at a particular time of year, twice a year, here is a link to an article that you may find interesting https://core-ed.org/en_NZ/free-resources/ten-trends/2019-ten-trends/2019-technology-real-time-reporting/
In 2023 we will be hosting a kaiako from Japan who will be in Hauraki. He is fully qualified and will be here to on a scholarship to learn more about education in New Zealand, as well as sharing his many skills and talents with us. He will need somewhere to live, preferably in our community. Would you be willing to be a host? There is a payment to you for hosting of $480.00 a month for expenses. He will be here from April 2023 for 10 months. If you would like to know more information please just contact me principal@lyallbay.school.nz
Congratulations to Au Harō who won the cleanest Hub award for last week, again! Ka pai. At the end of the term the hub with the most weekly awards wins a prize thanks to Crest Clean.
In 2023 we are looking at moving the newsletter to once every two weeks. We would love to know if you think this option would suit you or not, please email principal@lyallbay.school.nz or call and leave a message, or pop in and see me with your thoughts.
