Namaste
This week is a big week for two of our kaiako, Ms Loutje and Miss Tuinman-Bell, who are celebrating becoming fully registered kaiako. After completing a degree, then one more year of university focussing on education, kaiako enter the classroom and do two more years before they can be fully registered. It is a long, but rewarding, road to a truly fulfilling career. Ms Loutje and Miss Tuinman-Bell have both completed their second year of full time teaching in the classroom and have been supported by mentors, colleagues, whānau and our community. They both have passion for this outstanding career and tamariki are in their hearts. Tino pai.
Our current fundraising total for The Readathon is $8,105.50! Please still send in your forms, so you can go into the draw for spot prizes at the end of this week, which will be presented to tamariki at their hui. If you haven't returned the sponsorship form and money (we keep a list and this is where we get names for spot prizes from) then please do so before Friday! Many thanks to all those whanau who have participated. If it is easier than sending cash to school, please feel free to make a direct internet transfer to FoLBS bank account, 12-3481-0009279-00.
Our W.A.T.P (Waihangatia ngā Ākonga Tino Pai) Hui will be on the afternoon of Wednesday, 23rd November, and the morning of Friday 25th. This is an opportunity for you to come and hear about Huetepara (Yr 1-2) Wednesday @ 3.15 - 3.45 meeting on the field, Maranui (Yr 3-4) Wednesday @ 3.45 - 4.15 meeting on the turf, or Onepū (Yr 5-6) Wednesday @ 4.15 - 4.45 meeting in the lunch area outside Hautonga, so we can continue to live our vision of Waihangatia ngā Ākonga Tino Pai Building the Best Learners. The Friday session will be in the hall before school at 8.30am. Please email myself (principal@lyallbay.school.nz), Amanda (amandaw@lyallbay.school.nz) or Jo (jo.graham@lyallbay.school.nz) any questions you have, so we can be prepared. Please attend the session for the year group your tamariki will be in for 2023! We are looking forward to sharing with you all. Tamariki have not been set in their 2023 hubs as yet, but we will let you know these when they have been finalised on the Monday of the last week of school.
Kaiako continue to write Timely Report Comments for your tamariki. These are all on HERO and are linked to celebrating the learning and progress of tamariki. You can add a comment yourself or 'like' the comment that is there. If you are having trouble accessing these, please let the kaiako know and they will help you. Later this term there will also be a post sharing which curriculum level they are currently working at. Usually tamariki in Yrs 1-2 are working at curriculum level 1, in Yrs 3-4 they are working within curriculum level 2 and in Yrs 5-6 working within curriculum level 3. If you want to know more about why we have moved from reporting at a particular time of year, twice a year, here is a link to an article that you may find interesting https://core-ed.org/en_NZ/free-resources/ten-trends/2019-ten-trends/2019-technology-real-time-reporting/
Congratulations to Hautonga who won the cleanest Hub award for last week. Ka pai. At the end of the term the hub with the most weekly awards wins a prize thanks to Crest Clean.
In 2023 we are looking at moving the newsletter to once every two weeks. We would love to know if you think this option would suit you or not, please email principal@lyallbay.school.nz or call and leave a message, or pop in and see me with your thoughts.

Melanie
