Pānui Wiki Whitu
Rātū 29 Whiringa-ā-rangi 2022
Bula
Last week we had the W.A.T.P hui (Waihangatia ngā Ākonga Tino Pai) for any whānau that were interested in hearing about learning in the different teams (Huetepara Yr 0-1, Maranui Yr 3-4 and Onepū Yr 5-6). Kaiako shared how the different teams work and what is the same to make transitions easier. They shared that, for 2023, we will have 'Awhi Kaiako' who will be your first contact if you wish to know anything, but you are welcome to contact any kaiako in the hub. The 'Awhi Kaiako' will be the kaiako that tamariki have their base with, this is where their bag will be, where they go to be marked on the roll, if splitting into classes in a hub that would be the group they are with, etc. Kaiako also spoke about Learning Through Play and how this develops across the school, as well as learner agency. In Onepū there is more expectation on learner agency, but kaiako are still there to support all ākonga in their hub to access the best learning. If you have any feedback or questions, please let us know.
In the last week of school you will recieve a stationery list for 2023, through HERO. On this list will be the hub and 'Awhi Kaiako' for your tamariki. On Tuesday of that week tamariki will visit their 2023 hub, and on Wednesday, 14th December, you are invited to visit the hubs too. This session is from 2.30pm - 3.10pm. You will get an opportunity to meet the kaiako, have a whānau photo, chat with other whānau, and explore the space.
Manaakitang/Kindness
He aroha whakato
He aroha ka puta mai.
If kindness is shown, then kindness is what you shall receive
Friends of Lyall Bay would like to pass on our warm thanks to those who donated spot prizes for our schools Readathon. We are truly grateful for your generosity. These are being handed out this week. Much respect and aroha to the Smith whanau, Herbison whanau, Pearson whanau, Sheree Leavai from Swell Creative, Gemma Purdie from Soggy Doggy, Amy Christie from AC Admin Services, Anjali Burnett and Willow Henderson at Twenty Seven Names.
Our school community is truly amazing.
By the end of this week you should have had a Timely Report Comment for Reading, Writing (or a combined Literacy one), Maths and Ako twice. These are all on HERO for you to see. If you are having trouble accessing these, please let the kaiako know and they will help you. Please remember you can add a comment yourself or 'like' the comment that is there. In the last week of this term there will also be a post sharing which curriculum level they are currently working at. Usually tamariki in Yrs 1-2 are working at curriculum level 1, in Yrs 3-4 they are working within curriculum level 2 and in Yrs 5-6 working within curriculum level 3. We will send a PDF so you can see the range and a written comment as to where they are working in Reading, Writitng and Maths. If you want to know more about why we have moved from reporting at a particular time of year, twice a year, here is a link to an article that you may find interesting https://core-ed.org/en_NZ/free-resources/ten-trends/2019-ten-trends/2019-technology-real-time-reporting/
In 2023 we will be hosting a kaiako from Japan who will be in Hauraki. He is fully qualified and will be here to on a scholarship to learn more about education in New Zealand as well as sharing his many skills and talents with us. He will need somewhere to live, preferably in our community. Would you be willing to be a host? There is a payment to you for hosting. He will be here from April 2023 for 10 months. If you would like to know more information please just contact me principal@lyallbay.school.nz
It is getting closer to the long summer break, so I thought it would be a good time to share with you a website that a parent shared with me. This website helps to support your knowledge and understanding of social media and how tamariki respond and react, as well as how you can support them to make the best decisions. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/parents-ultimate-guides is here for you as parents and caregivers. Tamariki can register for free and parents can use the website to learn how to put in blocks, monitor their use and a myriad of other great information.
Congratulations to Hautonga who won the cleanest Hub award for last week, again! Ka pai. At the end of the term the hub with the most weekly awards wins a prize thanks to Crest Clean.
Yesterday was the first training session for Yr 4 Road Patrollers. It is wonderful to have so many tamariki who show whakapono and want to give service to the school. If you would also like to support getting tamariki safely across the road please contact Jo jo.graham@lyallbay.school.nz to add your name to a roster for 2023. Please remember, to help keep all our tamariki safe, to use the crossings and to park legally!
In 2023 we are looking at moving the newsletter to once every two weeks. We would love to know if you think this option would suit you or not, please email principal@lyallbay.school.nz or call and leave a message, or pop in and see me with your thoughts.
Noho ora mai,
Melanie
