The once tiny Syrup Village has expanded to an ludicrous degree over the last 100 years due to the amount of wealth Ussop himself brought in and tourists coming to see where the legendary pirate grew up. It exploded with popularity and soon people started to build more homes close by to it, eventually causing more people to want to move in.
Syrup Village expanded quickly, eventually taking over the entire archipelago of the Gecko Islands, wiping out almost the entire island’s supply of free land. Even after 100 years the amount of people coming to the island is still ginormous, with a lot trying to start up businesses or families in the city.
If you were to visit Syrup City today you’d be greeted with many shopping districts holding a wide supply of goods from around the East Blue, that almost anyone can buy. Businesses seem to crop up one day and disappear the next being swallowed up by another once profits aren’t met. It’s a shark eat shark world in the business side of Syrup City and those who rule over it hold the power to either make or break any makeshift shop that appears in the city.
Though this fact can be somewhat avoided by setting up shop in one of the 3 districts of Syrup City.
The Merry District
The smallest district in Syrup City, mostly being centred around the beaches and docks of the city. It’s very hard for the normal person to start a unique business here due to most travellers instead just using the district as a ship anchoring area.
The Kaya District
The Kaya district is quite barren when it comes to shops other than basic retailers, instead a lot of the homes that crop up in the city and it’s more suburban areas are covered by this district.
The Usopp District
The main district of Syrup City, with not only a wide array of shops but it’s also the district that holds the majestic Uso-Land and Kabuto park. It’s the heart and blood of the city, making a majority of the city's profits.
Each of these districts are run by their own mayor, each having a high importance not only Syrup City but the East Blue as a whole.
Where the original Syrup Village once stood now resides a giant theme park, centred around the great warrior of the seas GOD Usopp.
The magical Uso-Land is a place that anyone can enjoy themselves, come and try out the fantastical rides based on all the adventures of the great warrior Usopp. A haunted mansion detailing his epic battle against the ghostly maiden or the Dressrosa themed rollercoaster showing us his defeat of the monstrous sugar.
Rides upon rides detailing every fight the bravest warrior of the seas ever faced, come one and come all to see this magical place with your own eyes. The pride and joy of the Gecko Islands, the magical Uso-Land!
The Great Kabuto Park is somewhat self explanatory, it’s a giant park centred around conservation of the plant life that once inhabited the rural Gecko Island. The only real piece of wildlife that hasn’t been built on in the urbanisation of the island.
In the centre of the park is a giant statue of the great warrior Usopp holding his trusty giant slingshot: ‘Kabuto’. Being the only urbanisation allowed to enter the area.
The park itself is quite usual in all aspects other than its giant size, no real dangerous life exists within the park and it’s mostly seen as a place to bring the family for a nice day out. Though it is rumoured that on one night every week, when the park is closed, the richest of Syrup City go and hunt various rare creatures for fun.
Though this is just a rumour and no one has any real evidence to pin on the elite of Syrup city.
The people in charge of running Syrup City, normally publicly voted in politicians who decide the runnings of the cities and their trades. These people are seen as the elites of Syrup City, living lavish lives due to their role in the councils paying them extremely well.
Due to this a lot of people aren’t huge fans of The Council, believing it’s full of corrupt politicians who corrupt anyone who enters leading to a lot of regular people instead putting their trust in the Shop Owner’s Union.
The Shop Owner’s Union is seen as the true leader of Syrup City by many civilians because they are considered the only trustworthy people to run the city, therefore putting it at odds with the Council.
The Council is unable to act against the Union though due to them bringing in a large amount of the cities overall profits and so both groups quietly jab at each other attempting to weaken the other in a battle of fruition. Though it seems the Union already won long ago, with a lot of their rules becoming widespread city laws that even members of the Council begin following. Though it has no real power, the power of the public really makes the Union a force to be reckoned with able to ruin anyone’s start up business or life in the city
A fact that is unknown by many though is that the Shop Owner’s Union has links to the highly illegal Revolutionary Army, actually being started by a notable revolutionary leader in the EB to spy on the political standings of Syrup City. Quickly the group began to attract more and somewhat took over the city, making a lot of members of Syrup City unknowing allies to the revolutionary army and therefore criminals.
Syrup city has a thriving economy based around the trades of the many businesses that are built within the city itself and the rampant tourism that the city gets due to its many landmarks. The Island is loaded basically, being one the richest islands in the entirety of the EB and its lavish buildings show that off.
Its alliances with cities like Goa Kingdom only heighten its wealth and the amount of people in the city who go out to see other landmarks in the EB. It has become a centrepiece in the political standing and power ranking of the EB as a whole, playing a good part in the EB not being seen as the weakest and poorest sea.
Due to the urbanisation the island has gone through due to rapid growth little flora actually exists outside of gardens in the suburbs or Kabuto park. The flora itself is generally uninteresting and has nothing much to it, being regular plant life.
After the crowning of Luffy as the Pirate King, his crew became world-renowned celebrities and as the world changed, so did the public view of them, they were seen as heroes who brought upon an era of change and so people began to flock to their homes to see where these great warriors came from.
Gecko Island was one of these various locations, housing one of the most popular Strawhat crew members. The bravest warrior in the sea, Usopp! Many flocked to the uninhabited island to see where he grew up, where he became this brave warrior feared by all pirates on the sea.
The once quaint village quickly expanded, making alliances with other powerhouses in the EB and over the next 100 years quickly became one of the leading powers in the sea of the EB. All other villages that were on Gecko Island got bought out and were changed to another section of the island sized city.
Landmarks were made to celebrate their hero Usopp and bring in more tourism. This caused more and more people to come to the city, expanding it even more, quickly becoming a hotspot for shopping and any race to make their way in the East Blue.
Syrup City is now the cultural melting pot of the EB, holding families of almost every race. A place where anyone can make it, a place for people to brave their dreams and make a way of living.
