Parrotia persica, the Persian ironwood, is a deciduous tree in the family Hamamelidaceae, closely related to the witch-hazel genus Hamamelis. It is native to Iran's Caspian region and Iranian Azerbaijan. It is endemic in the Alborz mountains, where it is found mainly in Golestan National Park. A highly versatile tree that is tolerant of most soils (clay; loam; sand; slightly alkaline; acidic, pH 5 7.5), as long as the soil is well drained. Likewise will do well in part shade/part sun or full sun. Highly drought tolerant but susceptible to waterlogging.
