The common brown lemur is a species of lemur in the family Lemuridae. It is found in Madagascar and has been introduced to Mayotte. Common brown lemurs have short, dense fur that is primarily brown or grey-brown in color. The face, muzzle and crown are dark grey or black with paler eyebrow patches, and the eyes are orange-red. Their tails are long and furry. Common brown lemurs have binocular vision. It occupies rainforest, moist montane forest and dry deciduous forest. The common brown lemur is relatively abundant and is found in at least eight protected areas in Madagascar. Common brown lemurs are cathemeral, meaning they are active both during the day and at night throughout the year. They generally locomote quadrupedally, with all four limbs. They are prone to leap frequently when traveling, especially when agitated.
