In response to recent incidents of racism in our school community, this anti-racism text set has been carefully curated as part of an educational initiative aimed at promoting awareness, respect, and social justice. Designed for all three high school grades, the selection of texts is aligned with students' maturity and critical thinking levels. It includes ten diverse genres—starting with a clear definition of racism, followed by a powerful photograph, a thought-provoking piece of visual art, an engaging podcast, a reflective poem, a satirical cartoon, a meaningful song, an impactful quote, a short video, and an informative infographic. Together, these materials provide multiple perspectives on the issue of racism, encouraging dialogue, empathy, and action among students.
This text set is designed for beginner-level students and integrates a moderate use of technology to enhance engagement and accessibility. It aligns with Principles 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the TESOL framework: Know Your Learners, Create Conditions for Language Learning, Design High-Quality Lessons for Language Development, and Adapt Lesson Delivery as Needed. Aimed at public high school classrooms with 30 to 41 students, this resource supports English language development through carefully selected texts, meaningful activities, and adaptive teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs.
