Introduction
This project introduces a choice board to enhance student engagement and autonomy in the classroom using vocabulary about Jobs. The middle schools Joaquim Braz Pereira & Berenice Soares Monteiro are public schools in a small city Sobrado - PB, located 60 minutes far away city capital João Pessoa- PB. The students are 10 to 15 years old. There are on average 300 hundred students in both schools. This choice board is designed for 8th graders.
The choice board is not limited to vocabulary but also communicative tasks using speaking, writing, and grammar skills. Thus, the students can interact in small groups, focus on contextualized activities, motivate students to develop new language skills according to their reality and context. The Choice Board proposes new challenges promoting a fun and funny learning atmosphere. In addition, each student can choose an option to practice their language skills using their favorite way of learning.
Furthermore, the activities can be done using low technology because 90% of the students do not have cell phones and cannot use them in class. The level of activities are for beginners who need to share their ideas and creativity. It is based on TESOL principles 1,2,4,5.
