During the meeting, each participant shares the story behind their chosen item. This may include personal achievements, overcoming challenges, or unforgettable experiences. This activity encourages team members to connect on a personal level, strengthening the sense of community and camaraderie.
Any number of participants (larger group divided into smaller ones - up to 10 participants each).
Here and now.
Self-awareness.
Personal responsibility.
Direct experience.
Compassion
Instruct each team member to bring a meaningful object or photograph representing a significant moment or achievement in their life.
20-30 minutes.
Invite participants to close their eyes and guide them through a gentle visualization where they walk through a “memory path” filled with meaningful moments from their past (e.g., a childhood room, a favorite place, a moment of pride). Afterward, they can express these memories through drawing, storytelling, writing, or sharing in pairs or small groups.
For younger children, keep the memory prompts simple and focused on happy or familiar moments. For participants who prefer not to share aloud, offer options to draw or journal. For those with memory-related difficulties, use sensory prompts (e.g., sounds, scents, photos) to spark recollection. In virtual settings, use a guided audio track or written version of the visualization.
Reflection:
How did the exercise contribute to team bonding?
Which moments stood out most to you and why?
How did personal items contribute to understanding and connection among participants?
Which part of the activity felt most personal or emotionally charged to you?
What skills did you develop during the activity that could be transferred to the work environment?
The expected outcomes include enhanced group cohesion, strengthened emotional intelligence, and improved communication skills. Participants are likely to feel more seen and heard, which builds trust and psychological safety within the group. This foundation not only improves teamwork but also contributes to a more supportive and inclusive environment where personal stories become bridges between individuals.
This activity supports self-awareness, emotional expression, and personal storytelling. Create a safe and calm atmosphere, encouraging respect and active listening. Remind participants they can choose which memories to share and that they may pass if something feels too sensitive.
