SNOW is a camera app that provides various effects from filters to auto photoshop. This month, a new filter that would turn your face into a manga character became a huge trend in Korea. This filter is called “순정만화 필터(Soonjung Manhwa Filter)” in Korean, and has been used by many celebrities such as Rain, Park Na-rae and Kim Hee-chul.
Many people has gained weight this year as we move less compared to before the outbreak of COVID-19. However, as it is summer soon, YouTubers and celebrities went on a diet to do a body profile photoshoot. Especially, comedian Jo Se-ho shared how he lost 30kg in 6 months on the talk show "On and Off".
“승우아빠(Seung-woo’s Dad)” is a cooking channel that has 718k subscribers. He is known to have professional filming & recording system in his studio. Let’s dig in to find out what kind of camera & mic he uses for his videos.
#1 Choosing the right camera
As he usually cooks with a guest, he uses two different cameras.
① Cooking close-ups: He uses a video camera for close-ups. This is because shooting a cooking video takes up to about 8 hours. DSLRs that were released recently have less compressibility and battery capacity compared to video cameras. You have to switch the memory cards and have to press the record button to start/finish the shooting. There is also a chance of not filming at all which makes video cameras more stable and suitable in filming those shots. As I make cooking videos, it is important for me to guarantee a large space and great lighting. For lighting, I use LUXPAD K63H and for the tripod, I am using AUTOPOLE2 as it saves up space.
②Portrait shootings: For front shots or filming guests, I use Canon 90D. The lense that I use to get the front shot of a person is SIGMA A 30mm F 1.4. It makes it easier for me to use the bokeh effect as it is a single lense with a low aperture. This makes the person look more beautiful.
③Live streaming: For live streaming, I am also using the Canon90D. 80D, which is the previous model, does not have the CLEAN HDMI OUT option which makes it almost impossible for me to use auto-focus. It’s good that from 90D there is the CLEAN HDMI OUT option so that I can turn on auto-focus even while live streaming. I shoot very close, so I use lense from TOKINA. It’s 11~16mm F 2.8 and as it is a wide-angle lense with a low aperture it is much easier for me to erase out the bluescreen.
#2 Using the right mic for clean audio
① Talks: For the wireless mic, I’m using SONY UWP-D11. As a cooking YouTuber, it is priority for me to choose a mic that is wireless and well-connected even in distance. Audio matters more than video on YouTube, so that’s why I started using the same mic that they use in real broadcasting stations. For non-cooking contents, I use SM7B from SHURE. For this, you have to find the mic that best suits your voice.
② Voice overs: Voice overs are only used when the original audio is not really satisfactory. I have a soundproof room and I use ASTON’s SPIRIT mic to maximize the clarity of the voice over.
Lee Hyori’s dream girl group is becoming a reality!
On August 15, MBC dropped a teaser for “How Do You Play?”‘s new project after the end of SSAK3’s promotions. During SSAK3’s activities, Lee Hyori had said that she wanted to form a dream girl group with Jessi, Uhm Jung Hwa, and MAMAMOO’s Hwasa. At the end of July, the four artists held a meeting to discuss the possible project.
In the new teaser, the production staff of “How Do You Play?” sit Yoo Jae Suk down in front of an old-school TV. He asks, “What is this?” and the TV lights up to show a group of powerful women walking down a neon-lit alley. Against the backdrop of intense music and the extras’ shocked reactions, Lee Hyori, Jessi, Uhm Jung Hwa, and Hwasa walk into a restaurant and demand a refund, a reference to their group name of “Refund Expedition.”
At the end of the teaser, it’s revealed that “Refund Expedition” will be coming soon, produced by Jimmy Yoo (a nickname for Yoo Jae Suk).

Fortnite’s official Twitch channel just spent more than 18 hours livestreaming a constant loop of one 47-second PSA. That same PSA is also being featured on the game’s YouTube channel, where it’s so far racked up 2.4 million views, and Twitter account, bringing an additional 3 million. Cast in grainy black and white, the clip pans over rows of movie theater seats filled with some of Fortnite’s most recognizable characters. They sit mesmerized by a crackling big-screen broadcast of a dictator’s speech celebrating “the anniversary of the Platform Unification Directives.” Then, the spell is broken: poster character Brite Bomber busts in and breaks the screen with her signature Rainbow Smash melee weapon, freeing her fellows to commit a little thoughtcrime. As Brite Bomber walks away, scrolling text tells viewers, “Epic Games has defied the App Store Monopoly. In retaliation, Apple is blocking Fortnite from a billion devices. Join the fight to stop 2020 from becoming 1984.”
This #FreeFortnite campaign deployed yesterday, immediately after developer Epic Games filed suit against Apple for removing Fortnite from the App Store. It presumably gained steam later in the evening, when Epic also filed suit against Google for removing Fortnite from the Play Store. But let’s back up a second, because the removals and subsequent lawsuits didn’t generate spontaneously.
Epic Games’ distaste for Apple and Google has been evident for a while. Back in June, CEO Tim Sweeney began regularly tweeting criticism of the tech giants. He pointed out that because Apple and Google don’t allow iPhone and Android users, respectively, to install smartphone apps from anywhere but their own app stores, developers are forced to make products available there rather than offering direct downloads. And once apps are in their stores, Apple and Google take a 30% of all sales–including in-app purchases. That means any time Fortnite’s hundreds of millions of mobile users purchase its in-game currency, V-Bucks, Apple or Google gets 30% of what they paid. (V-Bucks go for around $10 per 1,000, with discounts for buying in bulk.)
So, yesterday, Epic Games cut Apple and Google out of the equation by adding a direct payment portal to its iOS and Android apps. The portals sell V-Bucks at a permanent 20% discount, undercutting the app stores’ prices while still bringing Epic Games 10% more revenue than it would’ve gotten if users purchased through Apple or Google. Ducking the 30% fee is against both App Store and Play Store policies, which is why Fortnite was promptly removed. iOS and Android users who already installed the game on their devices will still have it, but they will no longer receive any updates. (That’s a big deal, because Fortnite updates very frequently to add new cosmetic items, map updates, game modes, events, and seasons.)
Epic Games had lawsuits ready to go. It’s asking courts to order Apple and Google to stop “anti-competitive and unfair conduct” and mandate that the companies “take all necessary steps to cease such conduct and to restore competition.”
In a statement rolled out with its #FreeFortnite PSA, Epic Games told users, “Epic believes that you have a right to save money thanks to using more efficient, new purchase options. Apple’s rules add a 30% tax on all of your purchases, and they punish game developers like us who offer direct payment options.” (The statement was released before Epic also sued Google.) The developer urges players to protest Apple and Google’s actions by using the hashtag #FreeFortnite on social media. Apple told CNN that it will work with Epic to restore Fortnite to the App Store, but added, “Epic Games took the unfortunate step of violating the App Store guidelines that are applied equally to every developer and designed to keep the store safe for our users.” Google also said it will work with Epic to restore Fortnite. “For game developers who choose to use the Play Store, we have consistent policies that are fair to developers and keep the store safe for users,” it said in a statement.
