3rd Week of September
Are you planning to create videos on cultural difference? If you are looking for a topic, why not watch <Abnormal Summit> which aired back in 2014? In this program, representatives from each country share their thoughts on a certain topic, varying from love relationships to social norms. They compare their culture to Korean culture, so this program would be a great source of idea for those who wish to create videos on cultural difference. Moreover, it’s just fun to watch! J
Dave is also an expert in making videos on cultural difference. He is an American guy who has been living in Korea for quite a long time, and currently has 1.94M subscribers on YouTube. The main content of his channel “The World of Dave데이브” is comparing different languages and cultures, so you might want to check it out if you are planning to film videos on cultural diversity! If you want to focus specifically on Korean culture, you can check out the two videos of Dave that deals with ‘shocking Korean culture’.
"planD 플랜디“ has reached almost 180k subscribers one year after she started running her YouTube channel. She currently has 435k subscribers, and usually uploads calm and relaxing vlogs of her everyday life. Her first job is a costume designer and in her vlogs she film how she works, eats and takes a rest at home. While some YouTubers come up with more special and sometimes provocative videos to gain more views, planD has gained views with calming and relaxing videos. She has opened up all her tips on how to film a vlog effectively, so listen carefully!
#1 Camera
Vlogs usually deal with everyday lives, so the camera has to be really handy. In other words, it is easy to equip as the devices should be used everyday. For beginners, she recommends using just smartphones, not buying an expensive camera. You have to figure out which angle and which style fits you the best by trying out different filming ways with your smartphone. Later on, if you would like to develop your vlog, I then recommend you buy a mirrorless camera. Don’t forget to consider the weight and the size of the camera, as you would be carrying it around the whole day. See if you can still film with just the camera, without any tripods or gimbals. For beginners, I recommend Canon M50 or Panasonic LX100M2. Both are reasonable in price, and the quality is great so many vloggers use them. I personally use Sony’s RX100m3, which I bought a long time ago! There are new versions for this model such as the RX100m7, but I’m still good with mine. Filming a vlog is not just about having the most expensive and luxury equipment, but about which suits you the best. Just don’t be too obessesed with having all the equipment, since it is not the point of vlogging. If you really have to buy one, just remember this: It should be light in weight!
#2 Tripods
For the scenes where you must use both hands, I use small tripods that are called “gorilla tripods”. These tripods have flexible legs, so I can adjust them to any type of surface. For beginners, I recommend Matin’s Z5 Tripod as it is only 300 grams and easily pairs with smartphones. For those who use mirrorless cameras, Joby’s GorillaPod 1K would be great. The body part is sturdy as it is made of aluminum, and the head and the ball can be separated which is quite convenient! The height is about 26cm. When I film at home, I film at three different angles using three different tripods. For top views, I use one from Daiso (which is a dollar shop in Korea) and also AA-600SR from ARIA. But when I’m at home, I just use book, chairs and more. Take advantage of what’s around you!
#3 Editing
Vlogs does not really require sophisticated editing as it may distract the viewers. Instead, cut edits and designing your title or logo is more important. I use Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and Vegas Pro on my computer. There are applications for mobile devices too, such as KineMaster or Quik. If you are using iPad, you can also try using Luma Fusion as it is gaining more popularity among creators for its great service! I use VLLO on my mobile, as I have an experience of getting a really kind response from the managers of the app.
<Once Again> has been almost everyone’s favorite drama on weekend evenings for the last 6 months. Now it only has 4 episodes left till the end. The ratings for this drama has been increasing steadily until it hit the peak last weekend at 36.5%. Comparing to that of other dramas of the same time, <Once Again>’s ratings are about 4 times higher, which is a remarkable figure for weekend dramas. As the drama runs toward the end, the love relationship between the characters are almost settled. If you haven’t watched <Once Again> yet, please make sure to check it out! It is such a heartwarming and fun family drama :)
The first episode of the drama <Love Revolution> has gained more than 1M views after it was revealed on September 1, This drama is based on a webtoon under the same title which is very popular in Korea. The actors and actresses from the drama look so much alike from the webtoon characters, which helps the viewers concentrate more to the plot. The love story of two high school students, Wang Ja-rim and Gong Ju-young will melt the readers and the viewers’ hearts, so make sure to check it out!
Are you craving for some sweets, but looking for a healthy option? Then Paik Jong Won has the answer! In <Delicious Rendevouz> back in April, Paik introduced a dish called "Sweet Potate Souffle Omelette"! It is what it is called. It is a fluffy omelette that has the taste of sweet potato! It could be either a breakfast menu, or a dessert! The ingredients are also super simple. You just need sweet potato, egg, oil, salt, sugar powder, maple syrup and butter!
First up, boil the sweet potatoes and mash them or cut them into cubes if you want to save the texture.
2. Separate egg whites and yolks, add sugar to egg whites and make meringue.
3. Season the meringue with salt, mix with egg yolk, then add sweet potato and mix again.
4. Pour cooking oil on the coated frying pan and pour the batter and cook it on low heat.
<TIP> Put some butter in the pan when it's almost cooked.
5. Fold the souffle carefully in half and sprinkle sugar powder and maple syrup. (or anything else you would like!)
6. Sweet potato souffle is complete! So easy!
