We believe that mathematics should be taught using a consistent vocabulary. Students’ mathematical vocabulary learning is vital for the development of mathematical proficiency. The Pennsylvania Department of Education recommends mathematical vocabulary for each grade level. You can access the pdesas website by clicking HERE.
The following list of mathematical terms is recommended for Fourth Grade. Teachers introduce this math vocabulary to students by using these words orally alongside familiar language to build students’ familiarity with the language of math.
