Bereavement Leave Policy
The death or imminent death of an employee’s family member may warrant special consideration of paid absence from work.
Regular full-time employees will be granted up to 3 days of paid bereavement leave for the death of an immediate family member. “Immediate family” is defined as the employee’s spouse, parent, child, sibling, stepchild, stepparent, stepsibling, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, grandparents, and grandchildren. In the event of the death of other non-immediate family members (such as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, or in-laws not listed above), employees will be granted 1 day of paid leave.
Employees who wish to request paid bereavement leave should contact their manager as soon as the need for the leave becomes apparent. Upon presentation of satisfactory proof of entitlement, the employee will be paid as outlined above based on a calculation of the employee’s base pay rate (artists/therapists will be paid at their PTO rate) times the number of hours the employee would otherwise have worked on the days of absence.
