You can also listen to the Austrian radio stations Ö1 (classical music and cultural features), Ö3 (mainstream music), FM4 (alternative music) to get a feel for the current trends in Austrian life and music.

The Austrian Newspapers Der Standard and Die Presse are good sources of printed news. You can read almost all of their articles for free.
You can also find free daily newspapers around the city. For example, Österreich and Heute. These may not be the most reliable news sources, but they can help you expand your vocabulary.

Der Österreichische Rundfunk (ORF), has an excellent website and app (ORF ON), where one can watch the daily news programs, die Zeit im Bild (ZiB), and much more of its regularly scheduled programming.
You can also watch German-language series on Netflix. We recommend Dark, Kleo, Perfume, Babylon Berlin, and Die Kaiserin. Austrian shows are Vorstadtweiber, Braunschlag, and Kitz.
Here's a list of recommended films with reference to Austria. We recommend:
o Die Fälscher (The Counterfeiters) won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 2007.
o Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 64th Golden Globe Awards.
o Hinterholz 8 and Komm, süßer Tod are perfect if you like Austrian humor and dialect.
o Falco – Verdammt, wir leben noch! (mit Manuel Rubey); alternatively, you could go see the Falco musical Rock Me Amadeus.
You can also go to the cinema and watch a synchronized film in German. It's a special experience to go to the movies in a foreign country and it can be fun to hear American actors speak German.
Many students use apps such as Duolingo to “learn” German. They can be great additional tools to improve vocabulary and basic grammatical structures.
The website DW Deutsch Lernen is a great source for grammar worksheets, authentic texts in German, podcasts, videos, and much more.
Self-evaluate your current German skills, for example with the Menschen online tests.
Consider taking an ÖSD examination, which serves as an official confirmation of German language skills and can improve your resume!
