about

For me, the most valuable component of the program was the program staff. I could talk to them about any problems that I had, and being someone taking coursework at two different Viennese universities, it was very helpful to have someone helping us in both academic and cultural settings.

Overview and History

Since 1972, Illinois has administered study abroad for its students in Vienna. What began as a German language, literature, and culture program has expanded over the years to include academic-year and semester options for students in ACES, Business, Economics, Engineering,  German Studies, Global Studies, MCB, Political Science, and other disciplines.  It also hosts short, faculty-led courses, for example in Political Science and Business.  Well over 2,000 students have participated in our programs.

Today, IiVP students benefit from a wide range of course offerings at all major Viennese universities, as well as those taught by our staff.  Many also take advantage of internship and career development opportunities with the numerous international organizations, companies, and NGOs located in Vienna.  Our alumni have gone on to private and public sector careers in academics, business, engineering, journalism, medicine, politics, sustainability, and more.  Learn about our programs and what they can offer here.
