Orienteering trains cadets how to conduct accurate, high speed land navigation.  The training focuses on how to read a map, use a compass and estimate distances in order to find points in different terrain on a course.  We use that knowledge at our competitions as we attempt to beat the time of our competitors by combining accurate compass and map skills with speed.  The Huntingtown High School Orienteering team has competed in the National Championship for several consecutive years and expects to continue going to National level competitions.

HHS NJROTC Orienteering Team was slated to compete in the 2019-20 Nationals in Quantico, VA, but it was cancelled due to COVID-19,

Previously HHS NJROTC had competed in these National Championship events:

2018-19 Nationals at Vasquez Rocks Park in Los Angeles, CA

2017-18 Nationals at Wekiwa Springs Park in Orlando, Florida

2016-17 at Red Top Mountain State Park in Cartersville, Georgia

2015-16 Nationals in Seattle, Washington!
