Safety Department Responsibilities

The goal of the safety department is to ensure the safety of the cadets within the unit by providing first aid or direction to higher level care during events involving the cadets within the unit.

Safety Officer

Responsibilities

Primary:

· Attend (or coordinate a safety representative to do so) all njrotc events.

· Provide Emergency or minor care to injuries sustained by cadets within the unit

Secondary: Minor roles include

· Document injuries relating to a njrotc function or event using the W’s

· Ensure department first aid bags are stocked

Training: To train the Chief of safety department

· Provide opportunities to become trained in CPR and first aid

· Train how to communicate with senior staff

· Train the chief to step up if the officer isn't available to perform tasks/ represent to department in meetings, assume officer position if needed

Extra: Other functions not listed are

· Teach cadets first aid and important safety information (cold weather threats, hot weather threats, how to call appropriate etc.)

Safety Chief

Responsibilities

Primary:

· Attend all njrotc events if an officer is not available or the event is large (ex, meets, craft fairs. Etc.)

· Provide Emergency care to cadets if needed and inform the officer of any pertinent information

Secondary: Minor roles include

· Inform officer of any injuries so that they can be documented

· Inform officer if aid bags need new or more material

· Suggest ideas to officer to better the department

· Step in as a representative of the department if the officer isn't available

· Communicate with LPO when needed

Training:

· Train the LPO to be able to perform their duties and the officers in case the chief is not available, or both the chief and officer are unavailable to attend a function/ represent the department in a unit meeting

· Direct cadets to resources to allow them to get CPR/First Aide training

Extra:

· Teach cadets first aid and important safety information (cold weather threats, hot weather threats, how to call appropriate resources, etc.)

· Work with cadets and answer questions they may have

Safety LPO

Responsibilities

Primary:
