Team Commander
Responsibilities
Organize practices, postals, and team meets, with regards to the academics team
Develop academics tests for the team
Develop unit wide academics test when needed or applicable
Give performance reports to chain of command based on the status of the department and performance of team
Track, store, and analyze team data, from current and previous years
Actively train Deputy Commander or an upcoming position holder, in order to have a smooth and efficient change of command in the department
Delegate proper levels of assignments to Deputy Commander and fellow team members
Actively train the team in order to prepare for upcoming competitions

Responsibilities
Perform the duties of the Team commander in cases of absence
Aid in organizing team events/practices
Perform tasks delegated to them by Team Commander
Aid in analyzing team data
Develop academics quizzes for the team
Occasionally give/host a team practice with aid from Team commander
Team Rules
Criteria for joining: There will be a certain metric for who can join once the team is exceeded a number of 30 cadets which will include a test. To join the team when there is not an excess of 30 members a cadet simply must join the remind and send the Team commander a message, to start the process of joining
Meets: Only around 15-20 cadets will be able to participate in a meet this means the best will be selected, you get to go to meets based on your performance, attendance, reliability, and attitude. Postals however the entire team can compete
Requirements for making varsity: A cadet must be on the team for 2 years minimum*, must have scored a 65% or more on at least 2 academics tests at a meet, show up to practice diligently, must not have below a 80% in JROTC class or below a 60% in any regular school class (unless circumstances arise), must be in good standing with regards to performance, attendance, reliability and attitude.
*someone who has been on the team under 2 years can possibly eligible for varsity after scoring a 70% + on 3 academics tests within a 6 month period. They cannot receive below a 45% within this 6 month period. They also must be in EXCELLENT standings with regards to attendance, reliability, and attitude. No unexcused absences
Only 5 varsity members are permitted, but if enough cadets meet the requirements and excel above standards a “Lower Varsity” team of 10 will be created.
Earning Team Ribbon: Participated in 2 meets or 3 postals and is currently on the team as of these rules being made (September 2020)
Attendance: 3 unexcused absences and you will be kicked off the team, The team Commander will send you a warning after the second missed practice, but after that you won’t have a warning and will be removed. If you cannot make it to practice , you must message the team commander by 9am the day of practice, if something very last minute happens, you have 4 hours after practice ends (4:30pm) to message the team commander with an explanation or you will be counted as unexcused.
If you cannot attend practice it is mandatory that you complete the “extra assignment” that will be sent out during practice, and have it turned in by the end of the work week (Friday 9pm), The extra assignment will have instructions posted with it that must be followed.
Individual Team Performance & Attendance
The Academic Team competes against other NJROTC units in academic competition that test cadets on a range of topics during Combined Meets. Each week the Team practices and reviews information relating to military history, Navy ships, and current events. The Academic Team is open to all members of the units who want to come out and learn.
