Step 1 - Check the below Promotion Policy Spreadsheet for the requirements for you to promote. Read across the line of the rank you are up for (If you are currently an E-2 you would read the requirements across the E-3 line) to see what information you will need to have to fill out your promotion package.
Step 2 - Determine your Time in Rank - This is how long you have been your current Rank. To determine this you need to know your Date of Rank (the date of your last promotion). If you are an E-1 and you attended BCO, your Date of Rank is the date of BCO Graduation. If you are an E-1 but did not attend BCO, your Date of Rank was the first day of school. Your time in rank is amount of time from your date of rank to today.
Step 3 - Determine your Service Hours - Write down your cumulative (total since you started 9th grade) hours of NJROTC Community Service Hours and cumulative NJROTC Unit Service Credits. If you do not know your Community Service Hours or Unit Service Credits, you can check those HERE.
Step 4 - Get your most recent Physical Fitness Test results, or if you have run a Bonefrog that counts as a PFT passing grade during COVID.
Step 5 - Determine your GPA and Letter grades for all your courses from the most recent Report Card - You will need your GPA from the most recently completed marking period, click HERE for step-by-step directions how to check your most recent Marking Period GPA and write down your GPA and if you received any E's in any of your classes.
Step 6 - Submit a Promotion Package - Once you have verified and written down the numbers from Steps 2-4 and you feel you meet the requirements to submit a Promotion Package, select the button below for the Promotion Package for the rank you are requesting to be promoted to. Do not submit a Promotion Package if you do not meet the criteria in the Promotion Policy Graph below.
Step 7 - Package Verification - Once you have filled out and submitted the Promotion package below, the Admin Department will verify the information you submitted. Once Admin verifies your package as accurate, Admin will notify the Training Department that you are qualified to take the Promotion Test.
Step 8 - Schedule and take the Required Promotion Test - The Training Department will contact you through your school email to schedule your Promotion Test, if required: see policy graph to determine if there is a test requirement for the rank you are requesting promotion to). In order to pass the promotion test you will need to get an 80% or better. To prepare for the test you can find rank specific study guides and materials HERE. Once you pass the Promotion Test, Training will submit your grade and status as "Promotion Test Complete" and the Drill Team and/or Color Guard Commanders will be notified that you are ready to take the Drill or Color Guard Test, whichever is required for the rank your are requesting promotion to.
Step 9 - Schedule and take Drill or Color Guard Test - The Drill Team and/or Color Guard Commanders will contact you, via your school email, to schedule your Drill and/or Color Guard knowledge and practical test. You will need an 80% or better to pass. To prepare for the Drill or Color Guard test you can find rank specific study guides HERE.
Step 10 - Promotion - Once you have passed both the Promotion Test and Drill Test, the Admin Department will pass your completed Promotion Package to the SNSI's for a promotion decision. If it is decided that you meet all the criteria and you have good class participation and represent the Unit well outside of class, Admin will be directed to input your promotion into CDMIS and you will be scheduled for promotion at the next All Hands, AMI or Special Promotion Ceremony as determined by the staff, You will then be notified by Admin of your Promotion Date. You can also check upcoming promotion dates on the Unit Calendar.
