Kinder Week 1

Hi Folks! I hope everyone is safe, healthy and awash in toilet paper this week. I've attached a link that will lead to the TVOKids website where your student can practice using their newly acquired mouse skills. An interesting phenomenon that I have notices take place in the last few years is that Kindergarten students no longer start school knowing how to properly use a mouse. This is obviously due to a couple of factors: 1.) Children are used to using swipe and touch technology found on phones and tablets as opposed to desktop computers or 2.) Parents are making the right choice and limiting their child's screen time. Either way, I've been trying to make sure that your student is familiar with how to hold and use a mouse for future reference.

You may have to allow your web browser to use Flash. This can usually be done by clicking on the puzzle piece that will show up on the web page instead of the intended game and clicking "allow".

Please go to the following website: https://www.tvokids.com/preschool/games/bees-and-honey

Have your children play all three games and make sure that they:

1. Have proper posture while sitting at a desk. This is important to avoid back and shoulder issues as they inevitably spend more time on a computer. Back straight, shoulders back and relaxed and keyboard at a comfortable height.

2. Have a proper grip on the mouse. This means their hand is not too far forward or too far back on the mouse and their finger can easily press the left mouse button. If your child is left handed I find it best if they get used to using the mouse with their right hand so that they will be able to use other computers without much transitional difficulty.

3. Have them practice each game two times and observe what might be needed to improve their technique.

4. Have them practice on this page for at least 15 minutes for at least two days this week. After that feel free to let them explore many of the other games on TVOKIDS.

Have a great week!
