Common and Proper Nouns

Hello Everyone! Hopefully all of my Greenwood friends are doing well during this increasingly unusual turn of events! I will be making a website for the Technology classes this upcoming week so that elementary teachers can simply link to it from their class page and we can avoid flooding you all with multiple emails. If you would prefer an email, just let me know!

I have decided that we would stick with Starfall.com this week due to its simplicity as well as its versatility. It helps to cover all sorts of educational subjects and, in this case, we’ll be covering COMMON and PROPER NOUNS.

Please navigate to the following webpage: https://www.starfall.com/h/ela1/

(or you can go to starfall.com, click the picture that says “grades 1, 2, 3”, click “grade 1 English” and there you will see two available activities. These activities help children distinguish between the different kinds of nouns. It might be a little confusing for them at first so it’s best to sit with your child especially during the second activity with the monkey. The activities don’t need to be done together and, in fact, it might be best to do the spaceship activity a couple of times first to make sure the children have a firm grip on the definition of what a noun is. Rushing content like this can frustrate both the student and the teacher so take your time!

Stay safe friends!
