Ursine Shifters Skills

A bear shifter’s flesh is forged in struggle, tough, unyielding, and built for survival against overwhelming odds. Iron Hide reflects an ancient gift of resilience, where pain becomes power and even death itself must struggle to take hold. (If this rolls is successful, any existing decrease disappears after this post)

Simple Task - WITHSTAND THE BLOW:  Endure physical trauma, brute force, or intense stress without faltering.

• Novice level success: You shrug off minor wounds, scratches, bruises, and shallow cuts.

• Intermediate level success: You tank a serious hit without slowing, and reduced recovery time from a blow.

• Expert level success: You continue unfazed after impalement, extreme impact, or prolonged exposure to the environmental elements.

Difficult Task - ENDURE MAGIC:  Withstand supernatural and gifted attacks. 

• • Novice level success:  You resist a portion of the magic or damage, lessening its effect.

  • Intermediate level success: You absorb the full blow and keep your footing, still functional.  

  • Expert level success: You march through magical barriers 

Challenging Task - DENY THE FINAL BLOW:  Stave off a final blow and be able to flee the scene. 

• • Novice level success:  they flee, but they can be traced and found

  • Intermediate level success: they hide, but expert trackers can find them 

  • Expert level success: they can’t be found

Ursine shifters are forces of destruction when they draw on their raw physical might. This skill line represents their ability to manipulate the environment around them, breaking, uprooting, and weaponizing the terrain through brute strength. Whether shattering concrete or throwing entire objects, a Groundbreaker doesn’t move through the world; they redefine it.

Simple Task -  SHAKE THE ROOTS:  Channel brute force into a man-made object

• Novice level success: You create tremors or splinters, enough to cause a misstep or minor damage.

• Intermediate level success: Toppling and/or breaking furniture

• Expert level success: You tear open the floor

Difficult Task - RUPTURE THE FIELD:  Collapse unstable terrain, breach, or cause a sudden earthquake tremor to disorient opponents.  

• • Novice level success:  Break a section of a wall or manmade barrier 

  • Intermediate level success: Collapse terrain or tunnel

  • Expert level success: Cause tremors in the earth that disrupt opponents' attack

Challenging Task - BEAR THE WORLD:  Weaponize the world around you. Lift, swing, or hurl massive objects to alter the battlefield. 

• • Novice level success:  Grab a table, debris, or barrier and use it to strike or block one target. 

  • Intermediate level success: Wield a large object (beam, boulder, machine part) to hit or knock down multiple foes. 

  • Expert level success: Rip up and hurl sections of the environment (like a stone slab or fallen pillar), turning cover into deadly projectiles or collapsing areas entirely.

The spirit of the bear is tied not only to the body but to the deep bones of the world, where memory, rage, and legacy linger. Spirit Hunger reflects a shifter’s ability to draw strength from ancestral echoes, lingering souls, or death’s shadow. Whether sensing the presence of unrest, calling on ancestral wrath, or purging dark spiritual influence, this skill embodies the raw connection between spirit and survival

Simple Task -  SMELL THE GRAVE:  Attune yourself to nearby spiritual unrest or the residue of recent death.(Notecards are available around the sim)

• Novice level success: You feel a chill or whisper, something nearby has passed or lingers in unrest.

• Intermediate level success: You can determine the type of energy present: grief, vengeance, ancestral, or foreign.

• Expert level success: You sense the direction, mood, or identity of a lingering spirit, and whether it is bound, hostile, or simply watching.

Difficult Task - CALL THE BLOOD:  Tap into ancestral rage or spiritual force to heal   

• • Novice level success:  You get a surge of strength or adrenaline, enough to act despite injury. 

  • Intermediate level success: You recover health or clarity in the middle of chaos, roaring with ancestral fury

  • Expert level success: You fully regenerate a wound by invoking an ancestor’s blessing.

Challenging Task - KINSHIELD:   Using their connection to the spirits, they are able to shield another person. (If someone tries to attack the person the bear is shielding, they roll against the bear and if it fails, the bear gets the damage)

• • Novice level success:  They can defend for one post  

  • Intermediate level success: They can defend for two consecutive posts

  • Expert level success: They can defend for three consecutive posts

The bear is bound to deep earth, the bones of the world and the echoes that move within them. Hollow Resonance allows a shifter to feel what lies beneath: the buried griefs of the land, the pulsing rhythm of telluric lines.. This skill is used to detect spiritual corruption, locate sacred wells, or commune with deep ancestral forces hidden in the stones and roots. (Notecards around the sim gives information for this skill)

Simple Task -  HEAR THE WOUND:  Detect subtle spiritual shifts or signs of corruption in an area above ground.

Difficult Task - TUNE THE BONES: Resonate with spiritual currents or identify deeper magical forces buried in the terrain.
