Darien Spectator
History
Newspaper
Founded by James L. Grant in 1895, a prominent Black educator and Republican official in McIntosh County. Grant later went on to establish a high school in the county, where the Todd-Grant Elementary School stands today.
The weekly newspaper supported the Republican Party.
Grant was editor and publisher of the Spectator until E. R. Fair took over in 1904. The paper ceased publication shortly after the change in ownership.
