  • From Griffith, L. T., Talmadge, J. E., & Drewry, J. E. (1951). Georgia journalism, 1763-1950. University of Georgia Press (pg. 404-405): "Founded in 1884 at Sumner as the Sumner Free Trader, the Local was first edited by W. M. Clements. Dixon Hollingsworth, a native of Sylvania and a graduate of Emory University, is present editor and publisher [c. 1951]. Hollingsworth acquired the paper in September 1948 from Arch K. McGill [former editor and publisher of the Lyons Progress], who had owned the Local since 1921. . .Sumner was the site of the publication of the Sumner Free-Trader in 1884 by A. J. Alford. . .with W. M. Clements editing, and with Walter A. Allen in charge of mechanical work. . .In 1893 the paper [now entitled the Worth County Local] was move from Sumner to Sylvester, with Allen continuing as editor until 1903. A. J. Tison succeeded Allen for a month, and the paper then passed into the hands of Clifford Grubbs, editor and publisher. Grubbs abandoned the old Washington hand press, installed a power press and other equipment, and a year later the publication was incorporated under the name of the Sylvester Publishing Co., with Grubbs as editor and manager. A Linotype machine was installed in 1911, and in 1917 control of the paper passed to G. R. Nottingham, who operated it as editor and publisher until July 1, 1921, when he sold to A. K. McGill. In 1924 [June 12, 1924], the paper became the Sylvester Local."
