Cobb County Times
HISTORY
Newspapers
Otis A. Brumby, publisher, and Frank C. Bunting, editor, established the Cobb County Times with its inaugural issue on October 5, 1916. Brumby published the Times using the printing outfit of the Marietta News, which he bought out earlier in 1916. The Cobb County Times circulated weekly and politically supported the Democratic Party.
From Griffith, L. T., Talmadge, J. E., & Drewry, J. E. (1951). Georgia journalism, 1763-1950. University of Georgia Press (pg. 388): "Otis A. Brumby is a past president and board member of the GPA [Georgia Press Association], and he has taken a leading role in its affairs for many years. A native of Marietta, schooled in architectural engineering at Tulane University, he had worked with the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times, in which he became a part owner, and the Atlanta Journal, before he established the Marietta paper. In 1938, Gilbert P. Farrar, New York typographer, designed a new streamlined format for the Times. An engraving plant was added that year. The newspaper, noted for its fine appearance, has been used in classroom study of journalism in Georgia and other states. I. Perry Cocke, John H. Crouch, Alex McNeill, and Eugene B. Baldwin have served as editors of the Times."
