According to Jonathan Daniel Wells (24 October 2011). Women Writers and Journalists in the Nineteenth-Century South. Cambridge University Press. pp. 191–. ISBN 978-1-139-50349-5, beginning after the death of her husband (Colonel John Bascom Myrick ) in 1895, Marie Louise Scudder Myrick was the owner, manager, and editor of the newspaper until her retirement in 1907. Wells describes her as the first woman in "the South" to own and edit a newspaper.

The Americus Times was established in 1890 and was published by Times Publishing Company. The Recorder was established in 1879 by M. Callaway & Co. In 1890, its publisher was Americus Publishing Company, and W.S. Glessner was its editor.

The Americus times-recorder (Americus, Ga. : Daily) was established in 1891 and was published concurrently with: Times-recorder (Americus, Ga. : Weekly), 1891, and: Americus times-recorder (Weekly : 1891), 1891-1902, and: Americus weekly times-recorder, 1902-1907, and: Americus times-recorder (Weekly : 1907), 1907-1910, and: Weekly times-recorder (Americus, Ga.), 1910-1917, and: Americus times-recorder (Weekly : 1917), 1917-1922. N.W. Ayer & Son's American newspaper annual 1893/1894 volume describes the paper as democratic.
