Korte samenvatting / 

Aan het einde van de 19e eeuw wordt een jonge Deense priester naar een afgelegen deel van IJsland gestuurd. Hoe dieper hij het IJslandse landschap in trekt, hoe meer hij het besef van zijn eigen realiteit, zijn missie en plichtsbesef verliest.

De film speelt zich af aan het einde van de 19e eeuw en speelt Elliott Crosset Hove als Lucas, een lutherse priester uit Denemarken die naar IJsland wordt gestuurd om toezicht te houden op de oprichting van een nieuwe parochiekerk, maar zijn geloof op de proef wordt gesteld en uitgedaagd door de barre omstandigheden op het platteland. leven, inclusief zijn onvermogen als eentalige Deenstalige spreker om te communiceren met zijn toegewezen IJslandse gids, Ragnar (Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson).

Regisseur Pálmason maakte eerder A White, White Day, ook al zo stemmig en mysterieus. 

Brief summary

At the end of the 19th century, a young Danish priest is sent to a remote part of Iceland. The deeper he travels into the Icelandic landscape, the more he loses a sense of his own reality, his mission and his sense of duty. 

Set in the late 19th century, the film stars Elliott Crosset Hove as Lucas, a Lutheran priest from Denmark who is sent to Iceland to oversee the establishment of a new parish church, only to have his faith tested and challenged by the harsh conditions of rural life, including his inability as a monolingual Danish-language speaker to communicate with his assigned Icelandic guide, Ragnar (Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson). 

In modern-day Iceland, a box containing glass plate photographs was found, made by a Danish missionary in the nineteenth century. With that statement, this Icelandic drama begins, which depicts the harsh missionary journey of the priest and the origin of those photos. The old-fashioned image format, the beautiful compositions and the contemplative tone result in a film that feels like a living photo album. In which tension and humor are not lacking: the power struggle between the blue priest and his stiff guide leads to magnificent scenes. Director Pálmason previously made A White, White Day, also so moody and mysterious.
