The Ice Monster

What would you call the woolly mammoth? Strong? Dangerous? Scary? Gigantic? These all are possible. But the one adjective you surely wouldn’t use is cute. Elsie thinks otherwise. She is a little orphan who takes pity for all animals, even a mammoth. She helps the self-centered professor at the Natural History Museum to bring the new famous mammoth exhibit back to life. It takes a lot of effort to actually bring it back to life, but it takes even more effort to help the poor, frightened creature calm down. She manages to befriend the mammoth and decides to take it back to the North Pole. She uses the help of the Chelsea pensioners from the Royal Hospital Chelsea and her cleaning lady-friend Dotty.

David Williams writes great books. This book is one of my favorites. The day it arrived, I read it twice in a row, and with it, my collection of funny stories grew bigger. The transition from one chapter to the other is very smooth. It is worth noting that there are more than 60 chapters in this book. I think it fits because there is a lot to understand in this book. Your vocabulary and grammar skills get better. The story is based on some very true things. In the afterword, the writer writes about mammoths, Royal Hospital Chelsea, the Natural History Museum, and all the other real places and people he mentioned in the book. The Ice Monster is truly a great book.
