Living in a jungle may seem like a great idea to you, but go to the jungle without a guide, food, or modern transport and you will see how hard it really is. Will takes a lot of time to settle in the jungle, but Oona helps him out with that. Running Wild is a touching story that focuses on a few of the many faults of the humans like war and cruelty to animals. There is a young boy named Will whose father has died in a war. To relax and get away from grief, Will’s grandparents send Will and his mother to Indonesia on holiday. One day, while Will is riding Oona, an elephant, a terrible tsunami occurs taking his mother with it. The elephant panics much earlier and saves Will taking him to the nearby jungle. Will learns how to live in a forest without complaining. Oona and Will wander around in the forest meeting many animals, even a tiger. Soon humans capture Will and a few orphaned orang-utans babies, but Oona escapes. Later with the help of Kaya the cook, Will and his little friends, whom he named, Charlie, Bart, and Tonk after his friends from the school he used to go to, escape from right under Mister Anthony’s nose (Mister Anthony is the one who got the babies’ mothers killed, and he sells the skins of the dead animals). Somehow, the orang-utans Oona and Will have been following lead them to an orang-utan rescue center. The leader of the rescue center, Dr. Geraldine, along with his workers help rejuvenate Will who is sick.
