Do you think that your grandfather is too boring? Or is he too weird? Well, this one is neither. Jack’s Grandpa had fought in the Royal Air Force in World War 2. Jack is fascinated by airplanes. He made beautiful models of them and stuck them on the ceiling over his bunk bed. Every Friday, Jack was allowed to live with his Grandpa. His Grandpa took him to the days of glory in World War 2 through stories. Soon, his Grandpa began to re-live these stories. He slowly started forgetting what was happening around him. In his imagination, Grandpa was still a young pilot flying in the 1940s. He was an ace pilot, flying high above the clouds attacking the enemy aircraft. He imagined that he was doing all that in 1983.
Jack loved his Grandpa. He wanted to be with him all the time and take care of him. Unfortunately, he had to go to school. At nights, his grandfather would slip off in search of his imaginary spitfire airplane. Jack’s parents thought that going in search of his Grandpa every night was a nuisance and decided to send him to Twilight Towers run by Miss Swine. Jack does not find the place satisfying at all. He is the only person outside the building who suspects the huge fort called Twilight Towers. It is up to Jack and his Grandpa to find out everything.
Grandpa’s Great Escape was the first book I had read from David William’s collection. I enjoyed reading it. All his characters make the most unexpected actions at the most unexpected times. This book makes children realize the importance of being kind to aged people.
