The Enormous Crocodile

How do you feel about a crocodile eating children? Bad? Nauseated? Weird? Does it make you feel strange and uncomfortable? The Enormous Crocodile doesn’t think so. The Enormous Crocodile’s mouth is so big and his jaws so wide that he can eat four children whole! Just imagine how big his body must be! Suddenly, one day, he feels a sudden urge to eat children (the way you sometimes want to give your annoying, little brother a real good spanking) and goes all the way to the town boasting and gloriously explaining his plans to all the animals on his way. He sets his new and improved children-catching traps in the town to catch his lunch.

This book can be read to children from age 5. But it was my mother who enjoyed this book the most when she read it aloud for me when I was 5! I’ve noticed that Quentin Blake has illustrated all of Roald Dahl’s books. And that his illustrations relate a lot to what Roald Dahl has written, and they make every word written seem real. The story in this book isn’t long making it suitable for young kids. The way The Enormous Crocodile makes his plans and what happens at the end makes the book a whole lot funnier.
