I often wonder what it would feel like if I live forever. I got my answers from this fictional book. Since the beginning of time, people have yearned to become immortal. Alfie Monk is a boy just like any other, living with his mother. Except that he lived with his mother since the time of the Vikings. He is more than a thousand years old. After living for so, so long, he craves to become a normal being again—to grow up, have friends, and die one day. Because of the terrible mistake he made when he was eleven, he has to live forever, unless he finds a way to reverse his situation. His family had five liverperlers, also known as life pearls. A life pearl makes one immortal, but he or she could die in a war or by drowning. His parents had one liverperler each, but his father had drowned in the ocean. When Alfie was eleven, he took one and became immortal, too.
This is another one of Ross Welford’s interesting books. After reading Time Travelling with a Hamster and The Kid from Space, both Mum and I were sure that this book was also going to be fabulous, and we were right. We enjoyed it so much! This story is a long one and has a hundred and five chapters; so I would not recommend it to beginners. Nevertheless, it is very interesting and easy to understand.
