Punya Mishra is a professor at Arizona State University’s Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation and an AI Innovation Fellow at its Learning Engineering Institute. He earned his PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1998. Before joining ASU, he directed the Master of Arts in Educational Technology programme at Michigan State University. His research explores educational technology, teacher knowledge, creativity, and design.
With Matthew J. Koehler, Mishra developed the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework. Their influential 2006 publication explains how effective teaching with technology depends on the relationships among subject knowledge, teaching approaches, and technological possibilities. His later work gives greater attention to contextual knowledge, including how teaching settings shape technology use, and examines TPACK in relation to generative AI.
Beyond academic research, Mishra shares educational ideas through public writing, visual art, and the Silver Lining for Learning podcast. His contributions connect research on teacher knowledge with practical and creative approaches to educational design.
