When writing a short story the most commonly used tenses are:
Past simple
(+) S + Ved/cột 2 +...
(-) S + did + not + V-inf + ...

Ex: He lost a new hat yesterday.
Past continuous
(+) S + was/were + V-ing + ...
(-) S + was/were + not + V-ing + ...
(?) Was/were + S + V-ing + ...?
Ex: He was reading the newspaper at 7a.m yesterday.
Past perfect
(+) S + had + P2/Ved + ...
(-) S + had + not + P2/Ved + ...

Ex: She had had breakfast before we went to school.
- When writing a short story in English, you must use the following: past simple, past continuous and past perfect.
- Avoid continuous use of a simple past tense as in the following example: I woke up and drank a cup of coffee. Then I listened to music and did exercise.
- The sequence of events is important; so you have to use standard time words: before, after, then, in the start, later, in the end, until, while, during, finally.
