MBE, Director, The Annual Rupununi Music and Arts Festival,
Guyana
Bob Ramdhanie is a pacifist, an arts activist and a cultural producer. He is a Trini, lives in Barbados and spends time in Guyana, where he co-founded the 1st camping, music festival in 2014. He has been active and innovative in the arts arena, at grass roots level to senior management, in the UK for over 40 years, travelling extensively throughout Africa, Europe and the Caribbean.
Bob understands the power of the arts as a catalyst for change in human existence and since retiring (retirement to me simply means working harder over longer hours without a salary!) continues to inspire young people in the arts through mentoring, training, volunteering and through research and development.
His enthusiasm and passion for the arts have not diminished but has taken him to the grasslands of the Amazon in Guyana, South America. Against all the odds, he successfully launched the country’s first camping, world music & arts Festival at Rock View, Annai.
Despite numerous challenges, the Festival has delivered seven successful pre-Covid festivals and in May 2023, launched its ‘Arts & The Environment’ programme. This strand of the festival is to work with like-minded partners and to engage communities, through creative arts practice, to act against the negative impact of climate change and to ‘sow seeds’ contributing to Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS).
