Auro Fraser is Guyanese and currently lives in Colombia. He is a Program Manager with Open Society Foundations-RISE. Between 2019 and 2024, Auro led Open Society Foundations’ first ever Caribbean regional strategy with an emphasis on climate justice. Previously, he worked with national and international civil society organisations, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Criminal Court, living at different times in Nigeria, Egypt, Guatemala, Colombia, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the UK and Spain. Throughout his career, Auro has specialised in security-related human rights issues including investigations, anti-discrimination, torture prevention, rights-based policing, intelligence reform, democratic oversight, transitional justice, and the motives of perpetrators, among others.
Auro has an LL.M. with Distinction in International Human Rights Law and a First Class Honours degree in International relations. Auro is passionate about social justice in all its dimensions. He is fluent in English and Spanish, and an avid reader of global fiction and non-fiction. He is a music addict from reggae to gamelan, fascinated by neuro-science and music, and a bad but happy jazz pianist as well as the ever-learning father of an eight-year old girl and a five-year-old boy.
