Ms. Ché Greenidge is the Executive Director of the Barbados Environmental Conservation Trust (BECT) where she supports local environmental grassroots initiatives in protecting and restoring the island’s natural environment, whilst ensuring Barbados attains its national environmental goals. Ché strongly believes that by focusing efforts on supporting local resources aimed at environmental conservation, Barbados will have long-term solutions that can stand in the face of the climate crisis and provide a hopeful future for the nation.
Under Ché’s leadership, the Barbados Environmental Conservation Trust has raised over $600,000 for local community project implementations across the areas of food security, biodiversity protection, marine conservation, renewable energy and waste management. She has also been an instrumental force in driving effective environmental policies and initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and resilience in Barbados. Her strategic approach has strengthened partnerships with global organizations, governments, corporate entities and local communities, resulting in meaningful, inclusive collaborations with long lasting impact.
Through her work at BECT, Ché has been internationally highlighted where she represented BECT and Barbados in Tokyo, Japan at the Leaders Tour with the Association for Promotion of International Cooperation; COP27 and COP28; and received commendation for the past three years at the annual Conservation Collective Global Gathering in Ibiza, Greece, and most recently in London.
Ché is currently an Advisor in the Citizen Advisory Group led by the Inter-American Dialogue where she elevates the needs of Caribbean civil society groups and provides nuanced, justice-oriented recommendations to influence US climate aid to the Caribbean through the Biden-Harris administration’s US-Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis 2030 (PACC2030). Ché is also a member of the Global Americans’ High-Level Working Group on US-Caricom relations where she provides feedback and actionable policy recommendations on reports to US and Caribbean policymakers on climate-related issues.
Throughout her academic journey, Ché completed her studies in Political Science and International Relations with a focus on Global Environmental Politics at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus and York University in Toronto, Canada. With almost a decade of experience, Ché brings a wealth of knowledge, and high-value social and environmental impact in the areas of Sustainability, Climate Resilience, and Strategic Philanthropy at local, regional and international levels.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ché is passionate about educating the next generation of environmental advocates and endeavours to continue mentoring young environmentalists to take action towards an environmentally-secure and sustainable future for Barbados.
