Amarilis González Domínguez, born and raised in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, is the eldest daughter of educators Francisco González and Brunilda Domínguez. Inspired by her parents' passion for teaching, she pursued a Bachelor's degree in Science from UPR Mayagüez and a Bachelor's in Theater Education from UPR Río Piedras, later earning a Master's in Educational Technology and ESL from Universidad del Sagrado Corazón.
Amarilis began her career as a high school teacher, eventually becoming a college professor. After Hurricane María in 2017, she co-founded Techos Pa’ Mi Gente, a grassroots organization providing aid to those who lost their roofs. In 2018, she resigned from her 17-year position in the Department of Education to focus on the project full-time. With her husband’s support, Amarilis grew the organization, helping thousands and receiving numerous awards, including recognition from Puerto Rico’s Senate and Univision. Today, she continues to lead and advocate for her community.
