How to Blend in Like a Nobody
— after Ada Limon
Leah Cohen
I like how the pencil glides across
the paper with each stroke but
has no trouble ceasing itself
from existence. I like watching
the mouse as it clicks and drags
creating a masterpiece on
a computer screen, but the undo
button is as easy a click too. I like
the unapologetic beauty and the
fulfilling joy of a completed piece,
whether yours or mine. But mainly
let’s be honest, I like the opportunity
we have to take it all back. As quickly as
a masterpiece’s created, it’s gone from
the human eye, blended into the
timeline of life like it was never even
there to begin with. Sometimes I
close my eyes and believe that this
could all happen to me. As if all my
mess-ups, my flaws, and all the
cracks in my armor can quickly be hidden,
never to be seen again by another.
Author's Note: I like to write, but I usually don't like what I write. Mrs. Iacobucci has helped me learn to love the things I create through every stage of the process. I'm glad I am able to love my work now! 😌
