the difference between nature and mankind
Jaylin Yu
elevated many lengths above you
my hair is green
with a tough layer of skin
my arms extend out with fashionable
green puffs of leaves hanging on my fingertips
we are not the same
because of our means
you inhale oxygen
that I exhale
they see me as something to cut down
they see me as something to use
they see me as material
they don’t see me for my natural beauty
i’ve held up snow every Winter
i’ve shed my leaves every Fall
for children to jump into leaf piles
i’ve provided shade in the Summer
you get warmth with your families
while i used as a fire starter
as you sit around me in the summer
illuminating in night
Author's Note: I enjoy writing because it's a way to get ideas off of my mind and a way to express myself. Writing is limitless, and a beautiful way to share your thoughts. My piece was inspired by poet Clint Smith because his poems are truly inspirational and creative.
